¹³You shall not murder.

¹³For you have possessed my temperament. You have supported me from the womb of my mother. ¹⁴I will confess to you, for you have been magnified terribly. Your works are miraculous, as my soul knows exceedingly well. ¹⁵My bone, which you have made in secret, has not been hidden from you, and my substance is in accord with the lower parts of the earth. ¹⁶Your eyes saw my imperfection, and all this shall be written in your book. Days will be formed, and no one shall be in them.

²⁸And since they did not prove to have God by knowledge, God handed them over to a morally depraved way of thinking, so that they might do those things which are not fitting: ²⁹having been completely filled with all iniquity, malice, fornication, avarice, wickedness; full of envy, murder, contention, deceit, spite, gossiping; ³⁰slanderous, hateful toward God, abusive, arrogant, self-exalting, devisers of evil, disobedient to parents, ³¹foolish, disorderly; without affection, without fidelity, without mercy. ³²And these, though they had known the justice of God, did not understand that those who act in such a manner are deserving of death, and not only those who do these things, but also those who consent to what is done.

¹⁷Whoever will have struck and killed a man shall be put to death.

⁵For I will examine the blood of your lives at the hand of every beast. So also, at the hand of mankind, at the hand of each man and his brother, I will examine the life of mankind. ⁶Whoever will shed human blood, his blood will be poured out. For man was indeed made to the image of God.

²²If men will have quarreled, and one of them has struck a pregnant woman, and as a result she miscarries, but she herself survives, he shall be subject to as much damage as the husband of the woman shall petition from him, or as arbitrators shall judge. ²³But if her death will have followed, he will repay a life for a life, ²⁴an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth, a hand for a hand, a foot for a foot, ²⁵a scrape for a scrape, a wound for a wound, a bruise for a bruise.

¹⁶Six things there are that the Lord hates, and the seventh, his soul detests: ¹⁷haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, ¹⁸a heart that devises the most wicked thoughts, feet running swiftly unto evil, ¹⁹a deceitful witness bringing forth lies, and he who sows discord among brothers.

¹¹Rescue those who are led away to death. And do not cease from delivering those who are dragged away to a violent death. ¹²If you would say: “I do not have sufficient strength.” He who inspects the heart, the same one understands, and nothing slips past the one who preserves your soul. And he shall repay a man according to his works.

¹⁴Even so, it is not the will before your Father, who is in heaven, that one of these little ones should be lost.

²⁵Cursed be he who accepts gifts in order to strike down the life of innocent blood. And all the people shall say: Amen.

¹⁸He said to him, “Which?” And Jesus said: “You shall not murder. You shall not commit adultery. You shall not steal. You shall not give false testimony.

²⁰Woe to you who call evil good, and good evil; who substitute darkness for light, and light for darkness; who exchange bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!

¹⁹I call heaven and earth as witnesses this day, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and curse. Therefore, choose life, so that both you and your offspring may live,

⁵In the same manner that you do not know the way of the spirit, nor the way that bones are joined together in the womb of a pregnant woman, so you do not know the works of God, who is the Maker of all.

¹⁸If ever I said, “My foot is slipping,” then your mercy, O Lord, assisted me. ¹⁹According to the multitude of my sorrows in my heart, your consolations have given joy to my soul. ²⁰Does the seat of iniquity adhere to you, you who contrive hardship within a commandment? ²¹They will hunt down the soul of the just, and they will condemn innocent blood. ²²And the Lord has been made into a refuge for me, and my God into the assistance of my hope. ²³And he will repay them their iniquity, and he will destroy them in their malice. The Lord our God will utterly destroy them.

²⁰“But,” he said “the things which go out from a man, these pollute a man. ²¹For from within, from the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, ²²thefts, avarice, wickedness, deceitfulness, homosexuality, an evil eye, blasphemy, self-exaltation, foolishness. ²³All these evils proceed from within and pollute a man.”

³Behold, the inheritance of the Lord is sons, the reward is the fruit of the womb. ⁴Like arrows in the hand of the powerful, so are the sons of those who have been cast out. ⁵Blessed is the man who has filled his desire from these things. He will not be confounded when he speaks to his enemies at the gate.

¹Unto the end. A Psalm of David. O Lord, you have examined me, and you have known me. ²You have known my sitting down and my rising up again. ³You have understood my thoughts from afar. My path and my fate, you have investigated. ⁴And you have foreseen all my ways. For there is no word in my tongue. ⁵Behold, O Lord, you have known all things: the newest and the very old. You have formed me, and you have placed your hand over me. ⁶Your knowledge has become a wonder to me. It has been reinforced, and I am not able to prevail against it.
