7And the Lord said to Samuel: “You should not look with favor on his face, nor on the height of his stature. For I have rejected him. Neither do I judge by the appearance of a man. For man sees those things that are apparent, but the Lord beholds the heart.”

14I will confess to you, for you have been magnified terribly. Your works are miraculous, as my soul knows exceedingly well. 15My bone, which you have made in secret, has not been hidden from you, and my substance is in accord with the lower parts of the earth. 16Your eyes saw my imperfection, and all this shall be written in your book. Days will be formed, and no one shall be in them.

2And do not choose to be conformed to this age, but instead choose to be reformed in the newness of your mind, so that you may demonstrate what is the will of God: what is good, and what is well-pleasing, and what is perfect.

3For you, there should be no unnecessary adornment of the hair, or surrounding with gold, or the wearing of ornate clothing. 4Instead, you should be a hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptibility of a quiet and meek spirit, rich in the sight of God.

6And we each have different gifts, according to the grace that has been given to us: whether prophecy, in agreement with the reasonableness of faith; 7or ministry, in ministering; or he who teaches, in doctrine;

11For I know the thoughts that I think over you, says the Lord: thoughts of peace and not of affliction, so that I may give you patience and an end.

11Because of this, too, we pray always for you, so that our God may make you worthy of his calling and may complete every act of his goodness, as well as his work of faith in virtue, 12in order that the name of our Lord Jesus may be glorified in you, and you in him, in accord with the grace of our God and of the Lord Jesus Christ.

5Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be consoled. 6Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for justice, for they shall be satisfied. 7Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy. 8Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God. 9Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God. 10Blessed are those who endure persecution for the sake of justice, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
