14When you will sell anything to your fellow citizen, or buy anything from him, do not cause your brother grief, but buy from him according to the number of years from the Jubilee,

10For desire is the root of all evils. Some persons, hungering in this way, have strayed from the faith and have entangled themselves in many sorrows.

17Let everything whatsoever that you do, whether in word or in deed, be done all in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

18But remember the Lord your God, that he himself has provided you with strength, so that he may fulfill his covenant, about which he swore to your fathers, just as the present day reveals.

9Do not lie to one another. Strip yourselves of the old man, with his deeds, 10and clothe yourself with the new man, who has been renewed by knowledge, in accord with the image of the One who created him,

1My brothers, within the glorious faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, do not choose to show favoritism toward persons. 2For if a man has entered your assembly having a gold ring and splendid apparel, and if a poor man has also entered, in dirty clothing, 3and if you are then attentive to the one who is clothed in excellent apparel, so that you say to him, “You may sit in this good place,” but you say to the poor man, “You stand over there,” or, “Sit below my footstool,” 4are you not judging within yourselves, and have you not become judges with unjust thoughts? 5My most beloved brothers, listen. Has not God chosen the poor in this world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom that God has promised to those who love him? 6But you have dishonored the poor. Are not the rich the ones who oppress you through power? And are not they the ones who drag you to judgment?

16Six things there are that the Lord hates, and the seventh, his soul detests: 17haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, 18a heart that devises the most wicked thoughts, feet running swiftly unto evil, 19a deceitful witness bringing forth lies, and he who sows discord among brothers.

4The neglectful hand has wrought destitution. But the hand of the steadfast prepares riches. He who advances by lies, this one feeds on the wind. For he is the same as one who runs after flying birds.

17Render to no one harm for harm. Provide good things, not only in the sight of God, but also in the sight of all men. 18If it is possible, in so far as you are able, be at peace with all men. 19Do not defend yourselves, dearest ones. Instead, step aside from wrath. For it is written: “Vengeance is mine. I shall give retribution, says the Lord.” 20So if an enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him a drink. For in doing so, you will heap burning coals upon his head. 21Do not allow evil to prevail, instead prevail over evil by means of goodness.
