³Let them praise his name in chorus. Let them sing psalms to him with the timbrel and the psaltery.

⁴A time to weep, and a time to laugh. A time to mourn, and a time to dance.

¹²You have turned my mourning into gladness for me. You have cut off my sackcloth, and you have surrounded me with joy.

²⁰And so Miriam, the prophetess, the sister of Aaron, took up a timbrel in her hand. And all the women followed her with timbrels and dancing.

⁴Praise him with timbrel and choir. Praise him with strings and organ.

²⁵But his elder son was in the field. And when he returned and drew near to the house, he heard music and dancing.

¹³Then the virgin will rejoice with singing, the young and the old together, and I will turn their mourning into gladness, and I will console them and gladden them after their sorrow.

³⁴But when Jephthah returned to Mizpah, to his own house, his only daughter met him with timbrels and dances. For he had no other children.

¹⁶And when he had led him, behold, they were stretched out on the face of the land everywhere, eating and drinking and celebrating, as if it were a feast day, because of all the prey and spoils that they had taken from the land of the Philistines, and from the land of Judah.

¹Alleluia. Praise the Lord in his holy places. Praise him in the firmament of his power. ²Praise him for his virtues. Praise him according to the multitude of his greatness. ³Praise him with the sound of the trumpet. Praise him with psaltery and stringed instrument. ⁴Praise him with timbrel and choir. Praise him with strings and organ. ⁵Praise him with sweet-sounding cymbals. Praise him with cymbals of jubilation. ⁶Let every spirit praise the Lord. Alleluia.

¹¹Their little ones go out like a flock, and their children jump around playfully.

²⁶The leaders went ahead, united with the singers of psalms, in the midst of girls playing on timbrels.

¹¹And the servants of Achish, when they had seen David, said to him: “Is this not David, the king of the land? Were they not singing about him, while dancing, saying, ‘Saul has struck down a thousand, and David ten thousand?’ ”

¹⁵The gladness of our heart has failed, our singing has been turned into mourning.

¹⁹And when he had approached to the camp, he saw the calf and the dances. And being very angry, he threw down the tablets from his hand, and he broke them at the base of the mountain.

⁶And rising up in the morning, they offered holocausts, and peace victims, and the people sat down to eat and to drink, and they rose up to play.

²⁰And so Miriam, the prophetess, the sister of Aaron, took up a timbrel in her hand. And all the women followed her with timbrels and dancing. ²¹And she prophesied, saying: “Let us sing to the Lord, for he has been gloriously magnified. The horse and its rider, he has thrown into the sea.”
