¹⁸Fear is not in love. Instead, perfect love casts out fear, for fear pertains to punishment. And whoever fears is not perfected in love.

⁵I sought the Lord, and he heeded me, and he carried me away from all my tribulations.

¹³Everything is possible in him who has strengthened me.

¹³So may the God of hope fill you with every joy and with peace in believing, so that you may abound in hope and in the virtue of the Holy Spirit.

¹A Psalm of David. The Lord directs me, and nothing will be lacking to me. ²He has settled me here, in a place of pasture. He has led me out to the water of refreshment. ³He has converted my soul. He has led me away on the paths of justice, for the sake of his name. ⁴For, even if I should walk in the midst of the shadow of death, I will fear no evils. For you are with me. Your rod and your staff, they have given me consolation. ⁵You have prepared a table in my sight, opposite those who trouble me. You have anointed my head with oil, and my cup, which inebriates me, how brilliant it is! ⁶And your mercy will follow me all the days of my life, and so may I dwell in the house of the Lord for length of days.

¹“Do not judge, so that you may not be judged. ²For with whatever judgment you judge, so shall you be judged; and with whatever measure you measure out, so shall it be measured back to you.

⁹If we confess our sins, then he is faithful and just, so as to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all iniquity.

²⁷And in the same manner as it has been appointed for men to die one time, and after this, to be judged,

⁴⁴You are of your father, the devil. And you will carry out the desires of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning. And he did not stand in the truth, because the truth is not in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks it from his own self. For he is a liar, and the father of lies.

³⁰Charm is false, and beauty is vain. The woman who fears the Lord, the same shall be praised.

⁴Whoever claims that he knows him, and yet does not keep his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.

¹For the law contains the shadow of future good things, not the very image of these things. So, by the very same sacrifices which they offer ceaselessly each year, they can never cause these to approach perfection. ²Otherwise, they would have ceased to be offered, because the worshipers, once cleansed, would no longer be conscious of any sin. ³Instead, in these things, a commemoration of sins is made every year. ⁴For it is impossible for sins to be taken away by the blood of oxen and goats. ⁵For this reason, as Christ enters into the world, he says: “Sacrifice and oblation, you did not want. But you have fashioned a body for me. ⁶Holocausts for sin were not pleasing to you.
