24He himself bore our sins in his body upon the tree, so that we, having died to sin, would live for justice. By his wounds, you have been healed.

16For God so loved the world that he gave his only-begotten Son, so that all who believe in him may not perish, but may have eternal life. 17For God did not send his Son into the world, in order to judge the world, but in order that the world may be saved through him.

5But he himself was wounded because of our iniquities. He was bruised because of our wickedness. The discipline of our peace was upon him. And by his wounds, we are healed.

34And they will mock him, and spit on him, and scourge him, and put him to death. And on the third day, he will rise again.”

6Yet why did Christ, while we were still infirm, at the proper time, suffer death for the impious? 7Now someone might barely be willing to die for the sake of justice, for example, perhaps someone might dare to die for the sake of a good man. 8But God demonstrates his love for us in that, while we were yet sinners, at the proper time, 9Christ died for us. Therefore, having been justified now by his blood, all the more so shall we be saved from wrath through him. 10For if we were reconciled to God through the death of his Son, while we were still enemies, all the more so, having been reconciled, shall we be saved by his life.

31And he began to teach them that the Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected by the elders, and by the high priests, and the scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again.

40For just as Jonah was in the belly of the whale for three days and three nights, so shall the Son of man be in the heart of the earth for three days and three nights.

1Therefore, Pilate then took Jesus into custody and scourged him. 2And the soldiers, plaiting a crown of thorns, imposed it on his head. And they put a purple garment around him. 3And they were approaching him and saying, “Hail, king of the Jews!” And they struck him repeatedly. 4Then Pilate went outside again, and he said to them: “Behold, I am bringing him out to you, so that you may realize that I find no case against him.” 5(Then Jesus went out, bearing the crown of thorns and the purple garment.) And he said to them, “Behold the man.” 6Therefore, when the high priests and the attendants had seen him, they cried out, saying: “Crucify him! Crucify him!” Pilate said to them: “Take him yourselves and crucify him. For I find no case against him.”

1Rise up to be illuminated, O Jerusalem! For your light has arrived, and the glory of the Lord has risen over you. 2For behold, darkness will cover the earth, and thick darkness will cover the peoples. Then the Lord will rise above you, and his glory will be seen in you. 3And the nations will walk in your light, and the kings will walk by the splendor of your rising. 4Lift up your eyes all around and see! All these have been gathered together; they have arrived before you. Your sons will arrive from far away, and your daughters will rise up from your side. 5Then you will see, and you will overflow, and your heart will be amazed and expanded. When the multitude of the sea will have been converted to you, the strength of the nations will approach you. 6A multitude of camels will inundate you: the dromedaries from Midian and Ephah. All those from Sheba will arrive, carrying gold and frankincense, and announcing praise to the Lord.

3May he not allow your foot to be moved, and may he not slumber, who guards you. 4Behold, he who guards Israel will neither sleep, nor slumber. 5The Lord is your keeper, the Lord is your protection, above your right hand. 6The sun will not burn you by day, nor the moon by night. 7The Lord guards you from all evil. May the Lord guard your soul. 8May the Lord guard your entrance and your exit, from this time forward and even forever.

31Then the Jews, because it was the preparation day, so that the bodies would not remain upon the cross on the Sabbath (for that Sabbath was a great day), they petitioned Pilate in order that their legs might be broken, and they might be taken away.

46And about the ninth hour, Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying: “Eli, Eli, lamma sabacthani?” that is, “My God, My God, why have you forsaken me?”

30Then Jesus, when he had received the vinegar, said: “It is consummated.” And bowing down his head, he surrendered his spirit.

1The Praise of a Canticle, of David. Whoever dwells with the assistance of the Most High will abide in the protection of the God of heaven. 2He will say to the Lord, “You are my supporter and my refuge.” My God, I will hope in him. 3For he has freed me from the snare of those who go hunting, and from the harsh word. 4He will overshadow you with his shoulders, and you will hope under his wings. 5His truth will surround you with a shield. You will not be afraid: before the terror of the night, 6before the arrow flying in the day, before the troubles that wander in the darkness, nor of invasion and the midday demon.
