19Do not defend yourselves, dearest ones. Instead, step aside from wrath. For it is written: “Vengeance is mine. I shall give retribution, says the Lord.”

18If the world hates you, know that it has hated me before you. 19If you had been of the world, the world would love what is its own. Yet truly, you are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world; because of this, the world hates you. 20Remember my saying that I told you: The servant is not greater than his Lord. If they have persecuted me, they will persecute you also. If they have kept my word, they will keep yours also. 21But all these things they will do to you because of my name, for they do not know him who sent me. 22If I had not come and had not spoken to them, they would not have sin. But now they have no excuse for their sin. 23Whoever hates me, hates my Father also.

For all who take up the sword shall perish by the sword. 53Or do you think that I cannot ask my Father, so that he would give me, even now, more than twelve legions of Angels? 54How then would the Scriptures be fulfilled, which say that it must be so?”

47Because you did not serve the Lord your God, with gladness and a joyful heart, over the abundance of all things. 48You will serve your enemy, whom the Lord will send to you, in hunger and thirst and nakedness, and in destitution of all things. And he will place an iron yoke upon your neck, until he has crushed you.
