12instructing us to reject impiety and worldly desires, so that we may live soberly and justly and piously in this age,

22But the fruit of the Spirit is charity, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, forbearance, 23meekness, faith, modesty, abstinence, chastity. There is no law against such things. 24For those who are Christ’s have crucified their flesh, along with its vices and desires. 25If we live by the Spirit, we should also walk by the Spirit.

1And so, I beg you, brothers, by the mercy of God, that you offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God, with the subservience of your mind. 2And do not choose to be conformed to this age, but instead choose to be reformed in the newness of your mind, so that you may demonstrate what is the will of God: what is good, and what is well-pleasing, and what is perfect.

25And one who competes in a contest abstains from all things. And they do this, of course, so that they may achieve a corruptible crown. But we do this, so that we may achieve what is incorruptible.

8Be sober and vigilant. For your adversary, the devil, is like a roaring lion, traveling around and seeking those whom he might devour.

1Most beloved, do not be willing to believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see if they are of God. For many false prophets have gone out into the world. 2The Spirit of God may be known in this way. Every spirit who confesses that Jesus Christ has arrived in the flesh is of God; 3and every spirit who contradicts Jesus is not of God. And this one is the Antichrist, the one that you have heard is coming, and even now he is in the world. 4Little sons, you are of God, and so you have overcome him. For he who is in you is greater than he who is in the world. 5They are of the world. Therefore, they speak about the world, and the world listens to them. 6We are of God. Whoever knows God, listens to us. Whoever is not of God, does not listen to us. In this way, we know the Spirit of truth from the spirit of error.
