¹⁹We know that we are of God, and that the entire world is established in wickedness.

¹⁵So may you be without blame, simple sons of God, without reproof, in the midst of a depraved and perverse nation, among whom you shine like lights in the world,

¹⁹If you had been of the world, the world would love what is its own. Yet truly, you are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world; because of this, the world hates you.

²And do not choose to be conformed to this age, but instead choose to be reformed in the newness of your mind, so that you may demonstrate what is the will of God: what is good, and what is well-pleasing, and what is perfect.

¹⁵Do not choose to love the world, nor the things that are in the world. If anyone loves the world, the charity of the Father is not in him. ¹⁶For all that is in the world is the desire of the flesh, and the desire of the eyes, and the arrogance of a life which is not of the Father, but is of the world. ¹⁷And the world is passing away, with its desire. But whoever does the will of God abides unto eternity.

⁴Little sons, you are of God, and so you have overcome him. For he who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.

¹⁵Do not choose to love the world, nor the things that are in the world. If anyone loves the world, the charity of the Father is not in him.

⁹I pray for them. I do not pray for the world, but for those whom you have given to me. For they are yours.

¹⁴But far be it from me to glory, except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom the world is crucified to me, and I to the world.

²⁰So then, if you have died with Christ to the influences of this world, why do you still make decisions as if you were living in the world?

⁴²Therefore, be vigilant. For you do not know at what hour your Lord will return.

¹⁴I have given them your word, and the world has hated them. For they are not of the world, just as I, too, am not of the world. ¹⁵I am not praying that you would take them out of the world, but that you would preserve them from evil. ¹⁶They are not of the world, just as I also am not of the world. ¹⁷Sanctify them in truth. Your word is truth. ¹⁸Just as you have sent me into the world, I also have sent them into the world.

²⁷This is religion, clean and undefiled before God the Father: to visit orphans and widows in their tribulations, and to keep yourself immaculate, apart from this age.

¹⁶Behold, I am sending you like sheep in the midst of wolves. Therefore, be as prudent as serpents and as simple as doves.

⁹But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, an acquired people, so that you may announce the virtues of him who has called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.

¹⁰He was in the world, and the world was made through him, and the world did not recognize him.

¹²For our glory is this: the testimony of our conscience, which is found in simplicity of heart and in sincerity toward God. And it is not with worldly wisdom, but in the grace of God, that we have conversed with this world, and more abundantly toward you.

⁵Walk in wisdom toward those who are outside, redeeming this age. ⁶Let your speech be ever graceful, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to respond to each person.

¹⁶For God so loved the world that he gave his only-begotten Son, so that all who believe in him may not perish, but may have eternal life.
