being alone

¹⁸The Lord God also said: “It is not good for the man to be alone. Let us make a helper for him similar to himself.”

⁵Let your behavior be without avarice; be content with what you are offered. For he himself has said, “I will not abandon you, and I will not neglect you.”

¹Whoever has a will to withdraw from a friend, seeks occasions; he shall be reproached at all times.

⁷Cast all your cares upon him, for he takes care of you.

¹⁹The Lord is near to those who are troubled in heart, and he will save the humble in spirit.

⁹Therefore, it is better for two to be together, than for one to be alone. For they have the advantage of their companionship. ¹⁰If one falls, he shall be supported by the other. Woe to one who is alone. For when he falls, he has no one to lift him up.

³²Behold, the hour is coming, and it has now arrived, when you will be scattered, each one on his own, and you will leave me behind, alone. And yet I am not alone, for the Father is with me. ³³These things I have spoken to you, so that you may have peace in me. In the world, you will have difficulties. But have confidence: I have overcome the world.”

²³I have become like a beast of burden to you, and I am always with you.

⁴For, even if I should walk in the midst of the shadow of death, I will fear no evils. For you are with me. Your rod and your staff, they have given me consolation.

³²But I would prefer you to be without worry. Whoever is without a wife is worried about the things of the Lord, as to how he may please God. ³³But whoever is with a wife is worried about the things of the world, as to how he may please his wife. And so, he is divided. ³⁴And the unmarried woman and the virgin think about the things that are of the Lord, so that she may be holy in body and in spirit. But she who is married thinks about the things that are of the world, as to how she may please her husband. ³⁵Furthermore, I am saying this for your own benefit, not in order to cast a snare over you, but toward whatever is honest and whatever may provide you with the ability to be without hindrance, so as to worship the Lord.

⁶So then, we may confidently say, “The Lord is my helper. I will not fear what man can do to me.”

¹¹I am not saying this as if out of need. For I have learned that, in whatever state I am, it is sufficient. ¹²I know how to be humbled, and I know how to abound. I am prepared for anything, anywhere: either to be full or to be hungry, either to have abundance or to endure scarcity. ¹³Everything is possible in him who has strengthened me.

³Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and the God of all consolation. ⁴He consoles us in all our tribulation, so that we too may be able to console those who are in any kind of distress, through the exhortation by which we also are being exhorted by God.

⁸But I say to the unmarried and to widows: It is good for them, if they would remain as they are, just as I also am. ⁹But if they cannot restrain themselves, they should marry. For it is better to marry, than to be burned. ¹⁰But to those who have been joined in matrimony, it is not I who commands you, but the Lord: a wife is not to separate from her husband. ¹¹But if she has separated from him, she must remain unmarried, or be reconciled to her husband. And a husband should not divorce his wife.
