⁹It is better to see what you desire, than to desire what you cannot know. But this, too, is emptiness and a presumption of spirit.

¹⁷But if anyone violates the Temple of God, God will destroy him. For the Temple of God is holy, and you are that Temple.

¹⁸For many persons, about whom I have often told you (and now tell you, weeping,) are walking as enemies of the cross of Christ. ¹⁹Their end is destruction; their god is their belly; and their glory is in their shame: for they are immersed in earthly things. ²⁰But our way of life is in heaven. And from heaven, too, we await the Savior, our Lord Jesus Christ,

¹And so, I beg you, brothers, by the mercy of God, that you offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God, with the subservience of your mind. ²And do not choose to be conformed to this age, but instead choose to be reformed in the newness of your mind, so that you may demonstrate what is the will of God: what is good, and what is well-pleasing, and what is perfect.

¹²“I beg you to test us, your servants, for ten days, and let roots be given to us to eat and water to drink,

²⁹And God said: “Behold, I have given you every seed-bearing plant upon the earth, and all the trees that have in themselves the ability to sow their own kind, to be food for you,

¹⁷by a perpetual law, in your generations and in all of your habitations, neither blood nor fat shall you eat at all.

²Most beloved, concerning everything, I make it my prayer that you may benefit by advancing and succeeding in whatever may be to the benefit of your soul.

¹⁵The beloved grew fat, and he kicked. Having grown fat and thick and wide, he abandoned God, his Maker, and he withdrew from God, his Savior.

¹All you who thirst, come to the waters. And you who have no money: hurry, buy and eat. Approach, buy wine and milk, without money and without barter. ²Why do you spend money for what is not bread, and expend your labor for what does not satisfy? Listen very closely to me, and eat what is good, and then your soul will be delighted by a full measure. ³Incline your ear and draw near to me. Listen, and your soul will live. And I will make an everlasting covenant with you, by the faithful mercies of David.

³⁴The Son of man came, eating and drinking, and you say, ‘Behold, a voracious man and a drinker of wine, a friend of tax collectors and of sinners.’

²³Say to the sons of Israel: The fat of a sheep, and of an ox, and of a goat you shall not eat.

²⁷Thickness has covered his face, and lard hangs down from his sides.

¹“Be sons of the Lord your God. You shall not cut yourselves, nor make yourselves bald, because of the dead. ²For you are a holy people, for the Lord your God. And he chose you, so that you may be a people particularly his, out of all the nations on earth. ³You shall not eat the things that are unclean. ⁴These are the animals which you ought to eat: the ox, and the sheep, and the goat, ⁵the stag and the roe deer, the gazelle, the wild goat, the addax, the antelope, the giraffe. ⁶Every beast which has a hoof divided into two parts and which also chews the cud, you shall eat.
