⁹And I will lead the third part through fire, and I will burn them just as silver is burned, and I will test them just as gold is tested. They will call on my name, and I will heed them. I will say, “You are my people.” And they will say, “The Lord is my God.”

¹⁰Behold, I have refined you, but not like silver. I have chosen you for the furnace of poverty.

⁷so that the testing of your faith, which is much more precious than gold tested by fire, may be found in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ.

³Just as silver is tested by fire, and gold is tested in the furnace, so also does the Lord test hearts.

¹⁰For you, O God, have tested us. You have examined us by fire, just as silver is examined.

¹⁰Truly, he knows my way and has tested me like gold that passes through fire.

²⁵And I will turn my hand to you. And I will temper your dross unto purity, and I will take away all your tin.

³And he will sit refining and cleansing the silver, and he will purge the sons of Levi, and he will gather them like gold and like silver, and they will offer sacrifices to the Lord in justice.

⁶In this, you should exult, if now, for a brief time, it is necessary to be made sorrowful by various trials,

¹⁰For you, O God, have tested us. You have examined us by fire, just as silver is examined. ¹¹You have led us into a snare. You have placed tribulations on our back. ¹²You have set men over our heads. We have crossed through fire and water. And you have led us out to refreshment.

¹Behold, I send my angel, and he will prepare the way before my face. And presently the Sovereign, whom you seek, and the angel of testimony, whom you desire, will arrive at his temple. Behold, he approaches, says the Lord of hosts. ²And who will be able to consider the day of his advent, and who will stand firm in order to see him? For he is like a refining fire, and like the fuller’s herb. ³And he will sit refining and cleansing the silver, and he will purge the sons of Levi, and he will gather them like gold and like silver, and they will offer sacrifices to the Lord in justice. ⁴And the sacrifice of Judah and of Jerusalem will please the Lord, just as in the days of past generations, and as in the ancient years. ⁵And I will approach you in judgment, and I will be a swift witness against evil-doers, and adulterers, and perjurers, and those who cheat the hired hand in his wages, the widows and the orphans, and who oppress the traveler, and who have not feared me, says the Lord of hosts. ⁶For I am the Lord, and I do not change. And you, the sons of Jacob, have not been consumed.

¹⁰But the God of all grace, who has called us to his eternal glory in Christ Jesus, will himself perfect, confirm, and establish us, after a brief time of suffering.

²And who will be able to consider the day of his advent, and who will stand firm in order to see him? For he is like a refining fire, and like the fuller’s herb.

⁷Because of this, thus says the Lord of hosts: “Behold, I will refine them, and I will test them. For what else can I do before the face of the daughter of my people?

²⁸And we know that, for those who love God, all things work together unto good, for those who, in accordance with his purpose, are called to be saints.

¹³each one’s work shall be made manifest. For the day of the Lord shall declare it, because it will be revealed by fire. And this fire will test each one’s work, as to what kind it is.
