15Turn away from evil, and do good. Inquire about peace, and pursue it.
16Six things there are that the Lord hates, and the seventh, his soul detests: 17haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, 18a heart that devises the most wicked thoughts, feet running swiftly unto evil, 19a deceitful witness bringing forth lies, and he who sows discord among brothers.
52Then Jesus said to him: “Put your sword back in its place. For all who take up the sword shall perish by the sword. 53Or do you think that I cannot ask my Father, so that he would give me, even now, more than twelve legions of Angels? 54How then would the Scriptures be fulfilled, which say that it must be so?”
4For he is a minister of God for you unto good. But if you do what is evil, be afraid. For it is not without reason that he carries a sword. For he is a minister of God; an avenger to execute wrath upon whomever does evil.
4For, even if I should walk in the midst of the shadow of death, I will fear no evils. For you are with me. Your rod and your staff, they have given me consolation.
19Do not defend yourselves, dearest ones. Instead, step aside from wrath. For it is written: “Vengeance is mine. I shall give retribution, says the Lord.”
1Then, seeing the crowds, he ascended the mountain, and when he had sat down, his disciples drew near to him, 2and opening his mouth, he taught them, saying: 3“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 4Blessed are the meek, for they shall possess the earth. 5Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be consoled. 6Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for justice, for they shall be satisfied.
38The Lord has heeded the desire of the poor. Your ear has listened to the preparation of their heart, 39so as to judge for the orphan and the humble, so that man may no longer presume to magnify himself upon the earth.
8But if anyone has no concern for his own, and especially for those of his own household, he has denied the faith, and he is worse than an unbeliever.
9Whoever declares himself to be in the light, and yet hates his brother, is in the darkness even now. 10Whoever loves his brother abides in the light, and there is no cause of offense in him. 11But whoever hates his brother is in the darkness, and in darkness he walks, and he does not know where he is going. For the darkness has blinded his eyes.
